Borgo a Scaletta – Borgo Marinaro

The seaside village is born as an ancient village in Scaletta. Fishing activity was and still is a major source of income thanks to the huge variety of fish and the substantial amount present throughout the year.
Were characteristic small houses where the fishermen's wives waiting for them with a hot meal that would refreshed in short periods when you were at sea for fishing.
Even today some of these houses remained standing and represents the history of this small seaside village which has now become a charming town of 2272 inhabitants.
Scaletta and its tradition of fishing is still found today in the typical dishes of fish and in many of the most common trades in the area that were related to the sea and fishing in general.
The seaside village was connected to the castle by an old trail that was built with difficulty between the steep slopes of the building.
