Polizzello is home to a highly significant Archaeological Area in Mussomeli. Situated on a hill at 877 meters above sea level, an acropolis dating back to the protohistoric and archaic periods was discovered.
In particular, this Archaeological Area in Mussomeli has witnessed the succession of different populations in different eras: from the 19th to the 16th century BC, cave tombs of Castelluccio and a hut with a rounded plan located on the eastern side were found; in the period between the 11th and 9th centuries BC, the acropolis was built; between the 8th and 6th centuries BC, on the other hand, shrines containing the helmet of Polizzello and a terracotta figurine of the Polizzello warrior were discovered. These shrines were used as genuine places of worship.
