San Cataldo – Embroidery

Embroidery is an ancient craft, still practiced and widespread worldwide, but especially in San Cataldo, in the province of Caltanissetta. This type of craftsmanship in San Cataldo is carried out by weaving thread onto fabric to create a decoration or ornament. In San Cataldo, it is the embroiderers who continue the tradition, producing embroideries, lace, and lacework with patience and perfection just as their grandmothers did, and before them, their grandmothers’ grandmothers. The skill of the embroiderers from Nissene was recognized at the “International Festival of Art and Embroidery,” held in Algeria, thanks to Marianna Bonaffini, provincial head of the Fashion sector of Confartigianato, who participated in this event and received a prestigious award.
