Realmonte – Scala dei Turchi

Contrada Scavuzzo, 92010, Realmonte, AG, Italia
An excursion to Realmonte not to be missed is that of the Scala dei Turchi, a particular rock wall that rises sheer above the sea and has been a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage since 2007!
Over time it has become a tourist attraction due to the shape of the cliff and its very particular colour but above all for being one of the places in the novels by Andrea Camilleri starring Inspector Montalbano. Thanks to its beauty, in fact, it has been used for numerous film sets.
The name comes from the past piracy raids by the Saracens, called by the locals “Turks”, which took place during the sixteenth century, who took advantage of the wall with staircases for an easier landing.
Numerous events are also organized at the Casablanca Theatre, especially theatrical performances, cabarets and concerts in the summer.
